Yea It's Spring!

Yea I think spring is here to stay. My daffodils are about finished. But my Columbines have little buds as do the Tree Peonies and the regular Peonies. The Anemonies and Bleeding Hearts are blooming. The early blooming purple Irises have lots of buds.

I have a new sunny garden to fill up this year. I lost a BIG tree and my Hostas begged to be moved last fall. They are all peeking out of the ground in their new homes. I bought a bunch of new Iris last fall at a big end of the season sale at Missouri Botanical Gardens. It is really fun - The Iris Society members come in and divide the plants that need it and thry also bring their own plants. I've planted them in little clumps throughout the garden. I have LOTS more room so I've been shopping. I'm planning a hummingbird/butterfly garden so I've already got some Coreopsis, Blue Salvia, Trumpet Fuchsia, Bellflowers, Veronica.

This weekend it rained off and on Saturday and ALL day Sunday. So I just went out and bought more flowers. I'm planning on working next weekend in the yard. The only downside is it is going to be in the 80's which is a little warm for me but we will see how it goes.

I have lots of different gardens in my yard but I've never had a sunny garden. I have shade and part shade but this one gets sun almost all day. This is going to be so much fun - but expensive.

Now if I can just figure out how to keep the bunnies out of my garden.

April Fool's Day

So I was wondering when April Fool's Day began. How did it get started? And what is the purpose of devoting a whole day to fooling or playing practical jokes on people?

A co-worker of mine thought it would be really funny to set up a fog machine behind one or our copiers. I work at a wholesale pen company and we have a little retail store and copy shop - more as a convenience to our neighbors than to make money. So one of our very regular really nice customer comes in a starts making a bunch of copies. D-turns on his machine and smoke starts rising from behind the machine. This poor woman who is in her late 70's early 80's starts yelling that there is a fire. D-thought this was so funny - I on the other hand thought it was mean. He hasn't done this for the last few years but today he pulled the stupid thing out and set it up. He is all upset cause we have only had 1 customer and he wasn't here to pull his prank - darn (hee hee).
I might also add that D is the owners son - so he can do this stuff and not get fired.

I have always thought that playing a joke on someone - especially to scare the bejesus out of someone is not funny. Now I love watching America's Funniest videos but I don't appreciate the practical jokes. An example comes to mind of a young man whose Mom is turning 50, I think, apparently works the 2nd shift or something. She is coming home at 4am and he is hiding in the garage in a Grim Reaper costume. I swear I think he took 10 years off her life and I am sure she probably peed in her pants. That is just not funny.

What do you think are practical jokes funny? And why do we devote a whole day to the practice?

If I were on Survivor...

I would show up dressed in pants with those zip of flegs, sneakers, t-shirt, sweatshirt, jacket and some nice thick undies and sport bra. I would bring my tankini with short type bottoms.

Seriously what is with the lacy flimsy bras, long thin cotton dresses. Maybe Survivor won't let them bring practical clothing. You would think after 13 prior seasons every survivor would show up in appropriate clothing knowing how the start fire with a flint, or without, and fishing skills. Have these people never seen the show before?

Why would I want to show my parts to the world? Cover-up people! Candace's bikini was the most impractical choice I have seen. There is now way that little top could contain those puppies during a physical challenge.

I also wonder why no one ever gets a sunburn. I assume they are supplied with all the sunscreen wanted just not on camera. I would have be a lobster after treking for 4 hours to the camp.

Nedless to say you will never see me on Survivor since while the money prize would be welcomed the physical excertion is not.

Cupid

Saturday is Valentine's Day.

It doesn't excite me so much cause I have no Valentine. My Mom and I have been known to partake in a heart shaped pizza. They taste the same as a round one but the have less to eat cause they have been cut into a heart. The first year I got one I went to a local pizza place, Imo's. I had seen ads for them available at Imo's. I forgot to read the small print which said "at participating locations". I went to the location closest to me and was given such a look - like are you crazy. The kind young man behind the counter said he could make me one but he would have to charge me the regular price for a large pizza. He then made me my half sausage half pepperonni pizza and cut a triangle out of the top and 2 half circles off the lower half. Not the most perfect heart - but it was still cute. Papa Johns is offering heart pizza this year and they make the crust shaped like a heart so it starts out that way and doesn't need to be cut. We had these last year but they were smaller so we each got our own. They sell them 2 - 1 topping for 19.99 with a coupon.
What are you doing for Valentine's Day?

It's My First!

Hi all -

Welcome to my blog.

A little about me:

I am in my 40's, single and happy that way. I have 2 very bad rescued min pin's , Angel & Pumpkin. I am addicted to TV. I love live theatre, going to movies, eating out, reading and gardening. I have traveled to Australia twice, New Zealand (no I did not bungy jump), London 4 times (I did see the Queen ,in a parade,on my first visit), Austria and Germany (but 1 was 12 so not many memories).

I love the cyber community I have come to know from Jackie's blog. It is an amazing feeling to get to know people without meeting in person. I am constantly amazed by the lives some of these people have lived.

Me - I have lived in the same house all my life. I have 2 sisters who are married and have kids - so I am the crazy Aunt I guess. We vacationed at the same place and house on the Outer Banks of NC all of my growing years. The house was taken off the rental market so we have stayed at several beachfront houses in the years since childhood. I still love going to the beach, but we no longer go every year.

My goal is to someday be a Lady of Leisure. I would love to not HAVE to work everyday. I could make appointments any day or time, I could take off on vacation whenever I wanted. I could sleep till 9am.

Another dream is to run my own toy store. My first job was at a variety store that sold a little of everything and was known to have that hard to find toy every Christmas. I have always loved toys. I have the old toys from my Grandmothers house - you know the cool old wooden ones. I also love stuffed animals. I have hundreds - it's sad I know, but they are soo cuddly.

So there is a little about me - a kid that never really grew up.
